New Limb Lengthening Medical Device Design from Nectar Product Development

Long Beach, California – July 7, 2017 – Nectar Product Development, an innovation focused medical technology developer, has redesigned a limb lengthening device that was released into the market for patients with limb length discrepancy (LLD).

The PRECICE system, by Nuvasive, is comprised of an intramedullary nail, locking screws, and reusable instruments that is used with an External Remote Controller (ERC) to non-invasively lengthen the femur and tibia. The ERC is used daily after implantation to lengthen or shorten the implant to a prescribed length.

Nuvasive, a medical device company, sought Nectar Product Development for their medical device expertise. The project was presented to Nectar with the requirements of being functional, comfortable for the user, and non-threatening for children to use. The Industrial design and User Experience teams worked closely to meet all needs. This innovative technology was integrated seamlessly and effectively with the current Nuvasive product line.

By taking a user- centered design approach, Nectar understood workflows, which translated to a concept that was easy to use for adults and children. This unique device integrated industrial design and user experience to produce an intuitive and ergonomically successful medical device.

“Projects like the ERC takes a collaborative team that understands the relationship between user experience, design, and engineering. Nectar was proud to produce the ERC design and help patients with LLD,” mentioned Darren Saravis, CEO of Nectar Product Development.
